I have been on Tamoxifen for about 10 months now.In the beginning, the hot flushes were relentless, but in the last month or so,they have eased noticeably. They still wake me at night, probably every couple of hours, but I go back to sleep quite quickly. They are definitely not as intense as they used to be.There are a couple of things that I have found ,that help them, and a couple of things that make them worse. We have just recently bought a rating 1, all cotton doona. The feather quilt has been packed away! I sleep with a rotating pedestal fan on,all night,at the foot of the bed, just on low.It definitely helps. Also, try sleeping with one leg out of the covers.I read this tip on another blog, and it actually keeps you a lot cooler! If try very hard not to drink ANY hot drinks any more.I keep cold water in the fridge, and sip it throughout the day.If you can keep your core temperature down,it really does help.Just one hot cup of tea,can bring on a hot flush for me.If I walk every day, believe it or not,my hot flushes are less.( one interesting thing,I never have a hot flush when I am out walking!!)I ALWAYS layer my clothes now,and I never wear a long sleeved top( unless it's a cardigan that I can take off)because I just never feel that cold any more.Another small thing,a cool / slightly warm shower, just before bed, also seems to help.Stress and worry, most definitely makes them worse,so trying to eliminate things like this from your everyday life, really does help. Its a long hard , slog, but I believe that hot flushes do improve with time.I used to get them constantly, throughout the day,but now I have maybe 5 or 6, and they are nowhere near as strong as they used to be.Take care.xoxRobyn
