Hot flashes and itchy skin!

Hello everyone,
I finished my AC a few weeks ago, and will start Taxol this week for 12 weeks.
The AC has plunged me into menopause (I was nearly there already). I just cannot regulate my body temperature - I am mostly hot all the time, but sometimes fluctuate between roasting and freezing, and my skin and eyebrows (the only hair I have left) are super itchy! I suspect this is all hormone related. This has been going for weeks. Has anyone else experienced the same, and does it start to settle after awhile? Any helpful tips?
  • @jtee - yes dry skin and hot/cold flashes def menopause. Hand fan, moisturising, reduce sugar /increase green leafy veg and increase exercise (brisk walk outside is good if you can manage it).
Itchy brows may mean hair follicles are irritated from chemo (that happened with my scalp): I think your brows are likely to fall out soon. 🙂
I’m thinking of you and wishing you well xxx
  • @jtee they’re really good tips that @TonyaM gave you. I do the same and it helps heaps
  • Hi @TonyaM, Thanks heaps for all the great tips!  :)

  • Hi @jtee,
menopause is a real hoot! If you are going onto anti hormone drugs like Tamoxifen then hot flushes are here to stay.My survival tips- get a ceiling fan in your bedroom and/or a bedside fan,
carry a bottle of cold water and a hand fan wherever you go.As soon as a hot flush starts, head it off at the pass by fanning yourself before it escalates. Don’t wear jumpers that you can’t take off.It improves when you finish all the meds.
  • @jtee, hi, I’m still itchy after finishing chemo a couple of months ago. It is getting slightly better with time. On itchy days I take clarytyne too. Uuuurggggh it’s so hard sometimes.
I also have some eczema  on my face too which is SO attractive....not!  I alternate in using Moogoo exczema cream and Bepanthan cream and cortisone on my itches too.

    yours in scratchiness  :s
    Caz xx
  • Yep. The menopause hokey pokey. One of the ladies posted that some where on here and it would be funny if it were not SO true. As to the itching, I had that during chemo and even now (eighteen months on) it sometimes flares up but not near as often. The chemo caused me to be allergic to a few more things than before, hence the itch. During chemo I took claratyne.
  • @Brenda5 Thank you. I am sleeping with air con and covers on and covers off throughout the night every night too! I am just relieved to hear that the intensity will reduce in time... I hope you are much more comfortable now!  :)
  • I found a lot of my side effects of chemo were actually from Menopause. The itchy thing I suspect may be from the chemo though so you may need an antihistamine. Be careful of how much you take as for me, it brings on menopause palpitations.
As to the hot/cold, I lived a few years with coat on coat off and slept under aircon with covers on covers off even through Winter. It gets less often and less intense as time goes by. Initially though, it was tough to take and my anxiety levels would go through the roof especially if the sweats started in public company.I found joining a Menopause group on Facebook especially helpful as there are loads of meno side effects which I didn't know of but by gee, I think I have had them all! It does get better with time.
