Yes it is common and I needed pain killers for a day or so after (mine was my neck and back) However Clarityne, an antihistamine has been reported on here as assisting with dramatically reducing that pain. I haven't tried it but a number of women have and state it really helped.
Some chemo also causes pain. I was on taxol weekly and got terrible leg pains around day 3....I didn't have Pegfilgrastim during that part of chemo so I know it wasn't that causing it. I didn't have the pain initial round but it got worse each round.
