Hair loss
Hi there
So my hair has begun to come out with the chemo. Its quite knotty when i get up of a morning. Should i sleep with something on my head at night? Not sure what to do.

- FletchMemberHey Everyone, I had a bit of a breakdown this morning in the shower.....just so much hair coming out, so as some of you suggested, I rang my hairdresser(also a long time friend) and she gave me a no2 all over. I hate it! I know, I know it will grow back.....
I do like my wig though, thank goodness! I have plenty of caps and beanies too. I have really struggled with this, Thankyou all for letting me vent. Who knows......I may even get used to this look? - SisterMemberI was very fortunate that @SoldierCrab and @Molly001 sent me stuff. I've also used scarves that I already had - just on my head now instead of around my neck and I've bought a couple of nice ones from Op Shops. Best type are wide and reasonably long or really large squares. You can make a nifty turban or have a gypsy look and co-ordinate with your wardrobe. One of my trademarks during this has been medical staff, etc wondering what I'm going to be wearing next. One of my chemo nurses regularly introduced herself as she didn't recognise me.
- Melc503MemberI got some lovely soft caps here. Even a funky one with a brim. They are pretty cheap and postage was quick.

I got a pre chemo number four shave, then the hair felt out gradually but quickly over a few days and then I went over it with an electric razor. During chemo it still grew a little bit but only straggly sparse fluff. - SisterMemberBest thing I did was take control and have it clipped. I only did No 2. It actually made me feel better to do it. I've worn wigs but prefer scarves and beanies, but mostly, go bareheaded around home. It's started to grow back recently but with awful white fuzz so I took control again and used No 1.
- Harvey1903MemberHi. Just got a couple of scarves from head covers on line, only got two and hopefully I can copy them. Also bought some comedic headbands which will sit nicely under a cap. Only second day after chemo for me, and in same position, do I wait for it to go or just be done with it.. Funnily enough doing hair this morning I needed more hairspray and mentally put it on shopping list, one less thing to buy! Julie

Omg they gave me the cold hand gloves on Monday. Wowee freezing. Worse than the cap. Hang in there, you will know what to do when the time comes xxx
Trikki2 - kmakmMemberHi @Fletch. I had TC and was told by both my oncologist and one of the chemo nurses that it was very hard on the hair and that I would lose it! So many different things being said people who purport to 'know'...
Anyway, down below I started shedding on Day 13, and up top on Day 14. It didn't happen all at once, it just started slowly and gathered pace. It didn't come out in clumps as such, but as I washed it, combed it or ran my fingers through it, it came away. Then it started to fall untouched. Like into the Australia Day pavlova I was making! And that point was after my second infusion.
I tried the cold cap but it didn't work well enough for me to continue with. When I started to wear hats to cover the growing bald patches I took control and had it shaved off. I couldn't stand the mess in the house and frankly it was distressing to have it disappearing at a growing pace. It was also lank, brittle and dead feeling. Sort of crunchy. In the end I was relieved when it was gone and I embraced my headwear with gusto.
It's grown back the same. Same colour, texture and thickness as before. I did want the chemo curls but it was not to be!
I know it's so hard for you, as it is for so many of us, but hang in there and go with the flow if you can. It's an interesting life experience to temporarily lose your 'crowning glory', and showers are a riot of new sensations! K xox - FletchMemberHi @Sister
Im finding it hard to not have control over this hair loss business, the other side effects I could manage, I could do something about it etc.
My practical side says go get it shaved but my heart says no !
I feel stupid to be hung up about this but I just am! - FletchMemberThanks @Trikki2
No cold caps or mittens at my hospital!
So glad to hear you’re doing ok. Best wishes for your last 2 treatments.xxx
I guess time will tell with my hair loss.....
