Hi @Fletch. I had TC and was told by both my oncologist and one of the chemo nurses that it was very hard on the hair and that I would lose it! So many different things being said people who purport to 'know'...
Anyway, down below I started shedding on Day 13, and up top on Day 14. It didn't happen all at once, it just started slowly and gathered pace. It didn't come out in clumps as such, but as I washed it, combed it or ran my fingers through it, it came away. Then it started to fall untouched. Like into the Australia Day pavlova I was making! And that point was after my second infusion.
I tried the cold cap but it didn't work well enough for me to continue with. When I started to wear hats to cover the growing bald patches I took control and had it shaved off. I couldn't stand the mess in the house and frankly it was distressing to have it disappearing at a growing pace. It was also lank, brittle and dead feeling. Sort of crunchy. In the end I was relieved when it was gone and I embraced my headwear with gusto.
It's grown back the same. Same colour, texture and thickness as before. I did want the chemo curls but it was not to be!
I know it's so hard for you, as it is for so many of us, but hang in there and go with the flow if you can. It's an interesting life experience to temporarily lose your 'crowning glory', and showers are a riot of new sensations! K xox
