Hair loss
Hi there
So my hair has begun to come out with the chemo. Its quite knotty when i get up of a morning. Should i sleep with something on my head at night? Not sure what to do.

- VangirlMember@TonyaM yeah I'm really over the bald look now. Unfortunately, one month post chemo and all I have is really sparse white baby fluff hair
- TonyaMMemberI hated every minute of being bald and my hair took forever to grow back. So after all the treatment was over,I continued to look like a cancer patient for another 6 months! Cotton bandanas and caps were all I could stand in the heat of summer. Its taught me to be grateful for my hair and I never complain about bad hair days.
- VangirlMemberMe too @"Kiwi Angel" I didn't think I would go with a wig but I felt sooo much better wearing it.
- Kiwi_AngelMember@Fletch I found the hair loss made something personal public. Even though I had lost a boob I could hide that but hated the potential hair loss. xoxo
- FletchMemberThankyou all. Family and friends are being as wonderful as they can but I feel so much safer talking on here.
I admire those of you that coped so well with the hair loss. Since I had the no.2 on Friday, I still hate it. But all your thoughts and experiences are giving me strength to pull up those big girl panties! Until now I don't think I really accepted that I had BC. Best wishes to all.
Someone on here said " it is intensely personal " yes, here, here to that !
Off to buy yet another beanie....... - SarnicadMember@fletch I’m hearing you. I’ve still got some although very thin atm. But last week when I washed it I had it come out in handfuls whopping big big big handfuls. The loss has slowed this week but still odd bits are happening. Remains to be seen if I still have any by the time chemo finishes. I can just see I will keep what I have until the last one and then the final indignity will I’ll be bald as I go back to work. It’s messing with my head big time
So far no noticeable loss of eyebrows leg hair or anywhere else which sucks as I’m cold capping to keep my head hair and it is dropping but everywhere else survives! - Trikki2Member@Fletch. Many hugs to you. Its so confronting and real. My nurse cut mine whilst i was in hospital and i felt so much lighter. I haven't had a shaved head etc, i can't do it, basically cause that means its all too real, but its still real when wearing caps etc, for me anyway. Your a warrier woman and will smash it
Xxxx Trikki2 - FinchMember@Fletch I had TC. I'm sorry you're going through this, lots of women say loosing their hair is the worst. I lost mine at about day 13 and it came out in clumps for days afterwards. I had it cut short, I bought a wig but never liked wearing it. As I lost my hair in the winter I used caps and scarves mostly and crocheted beanies. Mine is slowly growing back and is now a glorious centimetre long. It appears to be a lot greyer. Its not really bothered me , for someone who takes care of their appearance I've surprised myself. I like the fact my hair takes zero time to style each morning. Im unaware of anyone staring at me except a few children. Im owning it and going with it. I'll be surprised if I ever go back to growing my mum bob. Sending you hugs and take care. Xxxxx
- SisterMemberIt's not easy but far better than waiting for it to all fall out. And as @kmakm has said, reactions are a personal thing and can also differ depending on the day you've had. My emotional reserves are lower than I could have ever dreamed possible - the smallest setback can bring me to tears. As for hair, I found losing the eyebrows the hardest but I've not got a 3 o'clock shadow there 6 weeks after chemo. My head still has bare patches but I'm hoping they will cover before the weather gets too warm. The drawback is that I found chin hairs the other day! And I had to buy razors to do my legs for the first time since February!
Just rember, though... You will get through this. You're more than your hair. And this is the best reason you've ever had in your life to have your hair done in a particular way. - kmakmMember@Fletch It's intensely personal. Please don't judge yourself for your reaction. You know how we all bang on about being kind to yourself? This is the sort of thing we mean!
I shaved my head and surprised myself by how much I liked the look. For me it was more about the loss of privacy, everyone could tell what was happening. But I got used to it. Now my hair is back and I love it super short and am keeping it like this for at least a year.
Others slap on a wig and go about their business with confidence as a result. We're all different and there's no judgement here.
Have a good cry, vent, and shake your fist at the injustice of it all, whatever makes you feel better. Sounds like you've already got your big girl undies half way up to your chin anyway! Good on you for seizing control today. Well done.
My hair was all gone in early February and by the end of May I had a decent covering once more. You'll be right. K xox
