Hair Colour

Hi everyone,

Before BC, chemo etc...I had very wavy brown hair with perhaps 10% grey, which my hairdresser did a wonderful job disguising. When my hair started to grow back it was totally white! It is now white and a dark grey at the back. My oncologist says it will probably stay this colour for the rest of my life! Has anyone else experienced this total change of colour and has anyone regained their natural colour over time?

  • Well my hair is the same but my attitude has changed! I dont mind my hair now, it is so easy to look after and its probably time for a new look. And what better excuse to go shopping for new clothes!! It is strange that the colours I have always thought suited me no longer look the same! ( or is that just an excuse )...I am 49 so its probably time to shed the long hair, I keep reminding myself, I could have much worse things to worry about. Your first instinct is to get your life back the way it was before BC, but after all we have been through, I guess its a small problem. Good Luck with the makeovers and embrace the new healthy you...Jacqui

  • My hair was brown before chemo and it's now a sort of salt and pepper mass of curls! Everyone thinks it looks really nice but I am ready to colour it and put in foils. I understand the curls grow out within the year so won't be unmanageable for ever. I mustn't grumble as some of my friends are having very slow growing heads and it is easy to look after.

  • Well I used to have straight blondish hair(for 55yrs!) and mine has come through dark and curly with abit of grey here and there. It is very thin and fluffy. My hairdresser dyed it one shade lighter than what it was coming through and added 12 light foils. It looked much better.Still find it hard to manage though.

  • Hi girls,  When I read Jacqui's blog I did say the above.  My hair prior to chemo and radiation was like yours Jacqui (for a very long time).  It is coming through very fluffy and white just like you describe.  My husband won't touch it as it says it is "not nice"  I have thought of shaving it as well as when I have it bare I can feel the air blowing through it.  Ow and double ow.  I don't like white.   Then again I was as white as snow until I was five!!!! (thus most of my parents friends - few still alive - call me Snow)  My skin is far to pale to have white hair.  I don't suppose I need to worry too much until it is "hatless" which is a long way off yet.   XLeonie
