I've had it 3 times now, all prior breast cancer. I have excessive rolling of my foot which contributes. I used to do a lot of walking. I wore a heel (not very high) at work most days which shortens that ligament and makes it more of a risk, plus the tight calves. I rarely wear heels now and try to buy shoes with hidden arch supports. I also vary my exercise with water not just walking. It's not unsual to develop spurs because of it. I found my recovery was vastly quicker with the exercises...especially rolling the golf ball and calf stretches. I got into habit prior getting out of bed or standing after rest I stretch the calf and massage the arch. Then the first steps were nowhere near as painful.
