First chemo session

I had my first chemo session exactly one week ago on Thursday June 12.

I guess I am lucky in that I haven't had any major side-effects (yet) but I must admit that I am totally exhausted and I'm not even half way through my first 21-day cycle - and I have to get through three more of these and then 12 one-week cycles!

I honestly don't know how anyone gets through it.

Already I am wishing they could just put me into an induced coma and wake me up when it's all over.

  • I'm glad that you have not had any major side effects and totally agree with your idea of the induced coma. I can remember feeling completely exhausted about day 4 and 5 of that first chemo and saying that I could not imagine how I could get through the rest! But you do somehow because when it comes right down to it there is no choice. The bargain is we go through this awful treatment and then we get well again. It is very important that you give yourself every chance of coping with chemo though. Rest is very important. This is just a few months where you really have to put yourself first and worry about everything else when you have your health and your strength back. Nothing is as important as giving yourself this time. Let go of the reins and let those around you help. I think an important part of healing is recognizing that we are not superwoman but that we are very important to a lot of people. We owe it to ourselves and our loved ones to be kind to ourselves during treatment. Whatever it takes. Take care. Deanne xxx
