Feeling liberated!

Tonight my beautiful husband has shaved my head and I'm left feeling quite liberated! Losing my hair has been something I have been dreading since my diagnosis, but now that it has happened, it doesn't feel so bad! I do have to admit, I feel a bit anxious about other peoples responses, but it's something I can't control. I'm day 18 after my first FEC and having hair dropping out in the shower for past couple of days has been confronting. It feels so good taking some control! Now to start exploring possible wig options or maybe I'll just stick to scarves. Not sure yet!
  • Hi,  I too dreaded losing my hair, but when it started to fall out everytime I touched it was time to cut it off. Very confronting but with everything else going on not that impotant.

I did purchase a wig and I mainly wore it for work and out sometimes, but most of the time I wore scarves much easier, you can look on line and learn how to tie scarves so they dont fall off.

Good luck with chemo it does end and your hair will grow back, mine has come back grey and very curly.

My head is like a pregnant belly where people can't resist touching it!

    Take care xx

  • I too am finding having a shaved head pretty wonderful!!  No more bad hair days!  I find wearing a wig just way too hot here in Brissie, so I go with the little turban and wind scarves around that.  I'm not brave enough of do the bald thing in public though!  I'm starting temp work in a couple of weeks and will try the wig for that, but otherwise, it's scarves all the way - much more cool!

  • I am 12 months past treatment, and have just had my 2nd haircut!! I had my head shaved just before chemo, and I just LOVED having no hair.I actually didn't want it to grow back.It is so easy and much cheaper:) I never had a wig, just some hats and a bamboo turban which was my absolute favourite! I did chemo through summer,so it was easy to go with no head covering.Take care.xox Robyn
  • It is always scary the thought of losing our hair and then when it happens its not so bad and really as time passes and you are contending with other stuff it fades into almost nothing.

Summer is coming and wigs are hot, keep that in mind when you are making your considerations, I personally wored head scarves and hats.

    Take care
