Eye Sight Getting Worse
Has anyone else had their eye sight affected by chemo? My vision has become quite blurry and I can't read a book or newspaper anymore. I spoke to my Oncologist about this and she said it is normal and my eye sight should return to normal once chemo has finished. I still have 3 months of chemo to go and I feel my eye sight is getting worse.
Has anyone had to get glasses during their chemo to compensate for this? I'm just not sure if I should get my eyes tested and purchases glasses as I don't know if the effects will worsen over the 3 months or stay the same.
Any advise or feedback would be much appreciated.
Many thanks xo

- MantisMemberMine is getting worse too. I used to be able to get by but definitely need my reading glasses to read anything now. Maybe you could try some cheapies from the chemist to tide you over?
- SisterMemberMy onc said put it off as long as possible. I'm guessing he didn't mean indefinitely.
- SoldierCrabMemberI waited about 6mths after chemo finished to let my system settle down again.
- craftyMemberI have noticed my eyesight has got blurrier, I finished my chemo last week.
What is the thought on how long I should wait to have my eyes checked, I do have glasses for reading. - primekMemberMine definitely got blurrier and I waited a full 6 months before getting new glasses knowing it would probably improve which it did.
- AfraserMemberI got a slight bluriness occasionally - again was told it was normal, and it cleared after chemo. My sight actually improved slightly after chemo (I have worn glasses since 7) - apart from the cataracts, which I am confident was not caused by chemo.
- ZoffielMemberTry some moisturising eye drops such as Genteal. Chemo can literally dry your eyeballs out (yet another unexpected joy) so lubricating drops may help.
- SoldierCrabMembermine deteriorated and I needed new glasses one eye was my good eye prior to chemo now it is my worse eye and my script nearly doubled. I am 6yrs out they have never gone back to pre chemo levels.
- SisterMemberMy eyesight also deteriorated during chemo and my onc also told me it was normal. He said to try to avoid spending a lot on glasses for awhile after chemo if I could. I finished chemo a few months ago and went for my annual eye test 2 weeks ago. Deterioration is now what I would have expected without chemo. I think the suggestion of el cheapos to get you through if necessary is an excellent idea.
- kezmuscMemberHi @KezzaG,
My eyesight is terrible now. It was fine during chemo, and for a few months afterwards. After 8 weeks on Tamoxifen I needed glasses. The optometrist said this was very common. So for me not chemo related but certainly incredibly frustrating and it keeps getting worse.
