Doxetaxol

Hey there
So after meeting with my oncologist today, im a little nervous about having my 3 rounds of Docetaxel. I know everyone reacts differently but can anyone share their tips and experiences for me please? I have 1 more round of fec-d then onto this one.

  • Oh right. Hmmm not a fan of endone but i guess it will knock me out
  • @Trikki2 Yeah the bone pain is a bit of a turd. It arrived on the evening of Day 3 and departed exactly 48 hours later.

Mine was cumulative each round and for the final two I was allowed to take Neurofen, normally a no no on TC. Lucky you getting some Endone prescribed!

He didnt share that with me.  He prescribed Endone for the bone pain..im such a sensitive  chicken so i hope i dont react.  Having enough problems with fec-d. I will be having 3 x tc.

  • Hi Trikki. Docetaxel is the T in TC - it's Taxotare. The C is Cyclophosphamide, which is the C in AC as well.

This is a TC thread which may be of interest:

Docetaxel is strong stuff. They normally don't give you more than four because after that it can damage the heart (I asked my oncologist and that's what she told me). And that kind of defeats the purpose eh?!

The NUM who administered my first infusion said that it's common to have an allergic reaction to Docetaxel and to inform her of any strange sensations. She literally stood there and watched me after opening the line. I did have a reaction so they stopped it, gave me an anti-histamine and Phenergan, waited half an hour, and started the Docetaxel again. Thereafter I was pre-loaded with the anti-allergy meds.

The Phenergan made me delightfully sleepy so I dozed and slept through most of the rest of chemo! That was a win as far as I was concerned, though it did always mean I had to have a lift to and from the hospital. There's no way I could have driven home! K xox
