Docetaxel Reaction

Hi all,
I have my second chemo infusion tomorrow (TAC). Last time I had a reaction to docetaxel, which I was told is relatively common. I was light-headed, short of breath and had the shakes. The nurses handled it well and stopped it, then I finished the infusion a bit slower after a steroid injection and antihistamine without any trouble. However, the nurses wouldn't say if it will happen again next time, or even be worse. They just said they will do things differently to try and prevent it. Has anyone had a worse reaction the second time, or gone through reaction free? I'm feeling very anxious about it.
  • Hey Molly, I had a reaction but not til like the 5th Taxol LOL uuugh it was very scary, I felt light headed and my breathing was so shallow and I could feel myself like outside myself watching. My daughter screamed and same thing, they stopped the chemo, flushed the drip, anti hisitimines and I didnt react again. Let them know as they will stay with you to be sure, but I think you'll be OK!!! Hugs Melinda xo
  • I h ad a reaction on the second dose. The pain was unbelievable but once they added heaps more premed to fool my body we were able to continue. I had all the extra premeds before chemo thereafter. Make sure you remind them of the previous reaction. Some don't bother reading the history on the chart.
  • I had a really bad, couldn't breath first time reaction. As I was at a small center they stopped it and change my whole regime. When I had a recurrence 18 mths later I was treated with it. I was freaking out but with the right amount of antihistamine etc I was fine, no more reactions.
    Good luck.

  • I had a reaction with taxol. I had slightly different meds and no issues 2nd round.
  • I had a reaction the first time. They were more prepared the next time and I had no reaction.
  • Hi Molly001, I had a reaction to docetaxol too, I broke out in hives, they stopped it and gave me steroids and antihistamines then re-started at a slower rate. The next time, I was given the extra steroids and antihistamines before and had no reaction. Good luck
