Dexmethsone

Hi! 5th chemo tomorrow and back to 2 of Dex tablets this evening and in morning. I've had tingling and burning sensation in my arms mainly left all day today and this started yesterday. I think I over did things trying to get all the jobs down round the property (the right side had the sentinal node biopsy and bc).

Last time I saw Onc she said take 1 x lorazepam also before bed as to help with pounding heart feeling. She said Dex is like the upper and Loz is the downer to help.

Your thoughts....?

  • I had 5th round on Tues and this time actually did what the Onc nurses told me. Take 2 Dex morn and night for next 3 days and 1/2 lorozapam to slow me down or 1 at night to sleep. Big difference this time not so sick and the downer lorozapam helps balance the Dex so helping with the banging heart feelings and feeling I'm getting through these 4-5 days after chemo round a little easier. :) other times I was throwing up and really washed up for nearly 8 days. So a great improvement:)
  • \love the dexdevilzone too!!  On AC hated it - super hyped - so hungry!!  2nd dose I actually didn't take mine.  Thought that's what onc said.  He told me to reduce dose  as he wasn't pleased when I told him I was eating like a horse, not sleeping and couldn't stay still (small meals Pam, don't overdo things!!\\\\\), I thought he said stop taking it.  So last two AC's took half dose.  But oh boy did it change when the had the dox - was dreading taking the stuff, so didn't take full dose (naughty me)  but after the first dox I took all I was allowed.  I would of doubled the dose if he would of let me!!  So sometimes it was dexangelzone.!!  Funny when I took it for the dox /hercepton I didn't get the same super hyped feeling.  Weird

  • I took 2 Dex last night about 8.30pm after food. Then 1 Lorazapam. Slept really well. No disturbances. Woke just feeling a bit slow but way more relaxed
  • Sounds vile, thank heavens I never had occasion to use it!!!
  • The tingling and burning has just happened and I haven't takened anything yet.
  • I had the moon face and fluid in my foob of sentinal node side on dex also and huge weight gain. I tried a compression garment and it pushed the fluid up to collar bone and into legs instead ..haha...so gave up on that idea.  Friggin horrible stuff but necessary.
  • Hi Twiggyjumps, Dexamethasone was certainly an upper for me. I thought I was Superwoman on that drug!!! I was so hyped I could have taken on the world. I cleaned house top to bottom AND steam cleaned my carpets the day before chemo on that stuff.  I also got the pounding in my chest but not the tingling and burning sensation you describe, so I can't comment on that side of things.
  • Dexdevilzone...love it @Zoffiel! I hated the crap too, but, yes, necessary. I had to take it a whole week after chemo as nothing else controlled my nausea.  I got moonface, fluid retention, ferocious apetite and subsequent weight gain, short of breath. I'm not sure if it was the dex or chemo but my right (node cleared arm) was fluidy and tender for about a week after each infusion, especially at the upper back numby part. However, I always phoned and checked with the chemo nurses or on-call oncos if I was concerned about thins though.
  • Thanks Marg. Today I felt racing all day without it! My body knows what's coming! Lol
  • Dexdevilzone. Shitting stuff but necessary; just another bastarding thing to put up with,Twiggy. By the time you figure out what may make a difference for you while you are taking it, you'll be done taking it. Onward. Marg
