Cording?

Hi All

Just wondering who has had cording appear a few months after surgery and what did you do? I had a masectomy and partial node clearance (inc SN) in Dec and just the last few days I have notice a raised "cord" like lump stretching from my armpit to around the bottom of my bra line. It does feel slightly tight and is noticable more than irritating.

I have been doing my exercises/stretches to keep movement but this has appeared anyway. I have just had my 3rd round of AC.

Can something be done or is this just another "gift" from BC?

Thanks All

Em

  • Hi Em,

I had a cording issue that lasted several months...had regular physio along with continuing stretching - it ran from my breast area to just below my elbow. After it eventually went away, I haven't had any problems with it in the past 18 months. Good luck with yours....

  • Hi Em, much like the other suggestions - I'd recommend a lymphodema physio review - the cancer centre I have chemo at had a recommended one - and I checked with the surgeons PA, she had the same group down for their referrals.  They've help stretch out the scar tissue, ease off the cording and given me some laser treatment too - couple of sessions and I hardly notice it now unless I go for a few days with no stretching, then it tends to ping back.  Good luck!

  • I have a bit of cording after mastectomy as well and nerve pain thrown in ??

It is annoying, I agree find a lymphoedema physio they are great. Maybe the hospital? Or ask the breast care nurse

also Google might help in your area :)

    Best wishes

  • Hi Em

The surgeon referred me following surgery, maybe even ask the breast care nurse?

    Cheers

  • Thanks Carol

How did you get onto the physio at the Lymphodema clinic? I'm not currently seeing one at all - is it through your surgeon or oncologist or GP?

  • Hi Em

I have had similar surgery to you and have a bit of cording. The physio at the Lymphodema clinic made an appointment with a physio at the general hospital, I have seen her twice and she has done some massage on the area and given me some instructions on massage and exercises to do at home, ask for an appointment, the good news with this one is that it will go away yah. Honestly I find it gets worse (tighter) when I do stretching exercises on that side, which is really annoying.

    Good luck
