CLONIDINE/CATAPRESS

Hey girls

Just wondering if any of you lovely ladies have been on Clonidine and if so did you have any side effects etc.

I have been placed on this by the hormone clinic to help with my chills and sweats - but I am getting the sweats still regularly and I am sooooooooo tired all the time. I have reduced the dose down to see if it helped but it didn't.

Not able to see GP till 8th Feb, onco on 30th Feb and hormone clinic not till April.

Any suggestions or advice from previous experience?

Thanks

Mich xoxo

  • Hey Tonya

I made an executive decision to go off Clonidine because I couldn't continue to function and couldn't stand it any longer. I have been off it for 2 days and already I have the chills back and the hot sweats have come back. I don't call it hot flushes because they aren't the same as the hot flushes I used to have. But I am sure they are still classed as them. At least I don't feel I have to sleep all day. I have got an appt with GP next Friday and onco end of month so I hope I can manage to get on to something more suitable.

Thank you for replying because I feel better knowing that I am not alone with trying to cope with Clonidine. I am struggling enough with Femara with pain, fatigue, hot and cold feeling so I am not going to let another drug make me feel even worse. When something stops me functioning majorly that is enough to make a decision for me. I definitiely know how my body feels and works these days so that is a positive I have got from BC.

Hope you are doing well. Love to see you chatting on BCNA.

Take care, lots of love, Mich xoxo

  • I started on Clonidine last October because my GP reckoned my blood pressure was creeping up.I thought it was ok(check it myself) -only goes up at the doctor's surgery! Anyway,I thought it would kill 2 birds so to speak,as my hot flushes were increasing with this heat and humidity. I started on a quarter tablet twice a day then went up to half a tab twice a day(50mcg x2) OMG,was sooo tired, especially in morning. To start with,it helped with hot flushes alittle but then after a month it didn't. I cut back to a quarter tab in morning and half a tab in evening and that wasn't too bad, tirednesswise. But now I'm slowly coming off them cos I don't think they help and I will talk to my oncologist next week. They definitely make you tired Mich and it didn't improve over a few months. Is your blood pressure ok??If it is then you could possibly tweak the dose yourself or ring your GP and check with him if you can decrease it.
