Can't eat

Any suggestions on what to eat when you have no taste buds and feel sick.
  • Yes I also found burnt toast edible, even tried vegemite which I normally wouldn't eat. Salty and spicy food, not too much, and soups helped. Small meals often was the advice given to me. Good luck.

  • Well, I went crazy for tomatoes, hated coffee, chocolate and most other things!

Slightly flavoured water (lemon etc) was better than plain for me, a jelly went down well. Those custards in the frdige section of the supermarket were ok too. I think whatever you can manage to eat, it is important to go for a healthy option as we need all the strength, proteins, carbs, etc etc as are available through all this.

I am not saying to pig out, as the treatment seems to make us gain weight out of thin air! Grrr, but all things in moderation.

Best of luck to you, count down the days!

  • Thanks for the suggestions at this point every bit helps.
  • I lived on soup and toast, and only knibbled at those things.

    Good luck.

  • I agree I wouldn't normally have salt but I've been putting it on everything. Vegemite helps also however bread leaves me gagging! Mornings seem to be my hardest time when I'm trying to get ready for work and again late in the afternoon.
  • Thanks I will try them out and try and find other things.
  • This may sound really revolting to you but I craved salt and fat when I was having chemo.  I needed things really salty so I could taste them and one of the things I had was toast with thick vegemite.  I know it sounds gross but I could actually taste it when it was thick otherwise I couldn't.  I also at hot chips with lots of salt.  I know these are bad for you and not the best nutrition but I did try to balance the bad with some vegetable and apple juices.  I guess I new this stage would pass in a few weeks and I just needed to get through it whatever way I could.  Hope this helps and doesn't make you more nauseated.  from Diana

  • Try things you might eat after a gastro illness. Bland food like toast or crackers. I found eating very small amounts often helped to stop feeling sick. Also cold foods and drinks helped. Lemonade ice blocks, really cold water or flat flavored mineral water, calypso ice blocks, sorbet. Hope you feel better soon. Deanne xx
