AI side- effects
Hi all,
recently commenced and AI, and wondering if side- effects reduce over time. I was feeling pretty good, but since starting have had trouble sleeping, felt a bit down and stressed out and tired, achy hips and ankles and on an emotional roller coaster again, keep putting on weight... any advice or tips.

Bloody Breast cancer is the gift that keeps giving.
I also feel like I can’t multitask or remember stuff, it’s 1.5 years after treatment, for me, I think I feel pretty good, then have a set back....

- Suze6MemberI have been on anastrozole since 13 December, so Nearly 6 weeks. My cancer boob was certainly sore and I kept getting pains and occasionally in the other one. My sensible self thought it must have been radiation effects coming up again but my other self thought (of course) that it was the cancer spreading/recurring etc. i got my guts up and for the first time rang a support line on Thursday..the mcgrath nurse one and she told me it was the anastrozole. That hadn’t occurred to me. I had just focused on the bone/joint pain and tiredness. And the boob pain is just about gone now as well.
- tismeMemberThe Onc lowered the dose about a month ago I dont see him again for 6 months I just started of course the sore boob makes me think cancer . sulfasalazine for arthritis will ask the breast care nurse about sore boob n anastrazole etc she may have heard of such a thing
- arpieMemberSo sorry to hear that, @tisme. I've been on Anastrozole for just over 4 years now & still going OK on it (MUCH better than when I was on Letrozole and Exemestane!)
That's great that your Onc lowered the dosage - how long ago was that? Has it made a difference? When do you see them next? ...... Have you had a complete break from it yet, for a good month or so? To see if it can 're-set' so you hopefully get not as bad side effects?
Can you talk to your breast care nurse about it as well?
An online group that I am in (lots of overseas people on AIs) has had some success with taking Tart Cherry Juice - Studies show that tart cherries can help reduce the pain and stiffness associated with arthritis and other joint pain disorders. Several studies have shown tart cherry juice to aid significantly in exercise recovery and muscle pain after exercise. Others have gone on short doses of Steroid Tablets to reduce the pain ... but it can't be taken long term.
take care & good luck xx - tismeMemberI have been on Anastrazole for near 4 years and now Im getting side effects, god awful aches n pains , which the onocologist cut the dose to 1 tablet every second day, now my boob is sore when i wear a bra etc ssensitive to anything touching it. any one else with such issue

got up this morn was so crook could not stomach anything so got hold of breast care nurse she got hold of my oncologist she said stop taking the Palbociclib over the weekend as that’s wats causing prob and to keep taking Letrozole then Monday take Palbociclib again see wat happens but say I will get changed meds
I’m not goin to have very crook stomach even taking nausea tabs that I can’t stomach anything rather go without suffer the consequences - ok thankyou
yeh I have anxiety stress nervous problem but I don’t know much bout the Palbociclib tablet like I’ve read all side effects etc have moxolin and gastro stop to take but haven’t yet as haven’t needed them - arpieMemberIf nauseous & funny tummy/bowels - it could be the Palbociclib rather than the AIs .... or just nerves. See how you go for a day or three @Not_good_63_57 - see if it settles - otherwise there may be some anti nausea/tummy stuff you can take.
The body just takes a little while to get used to what we are feeding it .... I hope it settles down asap xx - FLCloverMemberYou’re nervous to start with, so just wait til the end of the day to see how you feel. Unless it gets severe, in which case call your doc. But it should settle. Don’t think about it and go do something fun 🙂. Cancer doesn’t deserve all the time we spend thinking about it
