Aclasta

Hi everyone

I have been prescribed Aclasta yearly to try and protect my bones from the side effects of Arimidex.

The first 2 infusions were free becuase the drug company was running a program. That has stopped. The drug has cost me $650!!!

HCF will not pay anything even though I have the relevant cover because it is a drug that is on the PBS if you have osteoporosis so even though I don't they will not pay it.

So much for preventative medicine.

Does anyone know if any the private health funds pay for Aclasta?

Thanks

  • Hi Suellan,

It's Lisa from the Policy Team. You may like to discuss these issues of cost with your medical oncologist. As you said, Arimidex can reduce bone density and affect women's bone health. Your medical oncologist may be able to suggest other less expensive options that you can use to manage your bone health.

    Warm regards,
    Lisa
