π’π’π’ A significant step forward for women who rely on monthly ovarian suppression treatment. π
Following months of uncertainty after the decision to remove Zoladex 3.6mg from the PBS on 1 November, PBAC has now recommended triptorelin (Diphereline) 3.75mg for PBS listing for breast cancer.
For women and their treating teams, this brings us one step closer to a sustainable, subsidised monthly treatment option.
It is also a powerful example of what can happen when womenβs experiences are heard directly in decision-making.
Women told us about the anxiety, treatment uncertainty and difficult decisions they were facing. Clinicians advocated strongly for their patients. Government recognised the urgency, PBAC prioritised consideration of an alternative, and a replacement pathway has now been identified.
We are not there yet.
The next step is to secure PBS listing, reimbursement and supply arrangements before 1 November, alongside clear information for women and clinicians about what is changing and what they can access.
BCNA will keep working with government, clinicians and industry until that pathway is confirmed.
To every woman who shared her story and every clinician who stood beside them β thank you. Your voices helped move this forward.
