Worried about tests

Hi all

Hope you are all enjoying the cooler weather! Just wondering if anyone who has been through the follow up tests after you have finished treatment can advise me -  I am seeing the oncologist on Friday for the first lot of blood tests review ( I finished treatment in October) - is this to see if the cancer has returned or to check the effects of the Tamoxifen?

Cheers Nicole

  • Like you, I finished treatment in October, and have recently had my post-treatment blood tests and check-up with the oncologist. As well as doing a full blood count (FBC) to check on general health, a tumour marker test showed that the level had come down and was within the normal range. As a result, I am now on a 6 monthly check-up, and if that goes well, an annual check only.

Chemo can be hard on the body, so the FBC kidney/liver/calcium/etc. tests are important as a guide to your general well-being, and I think of the CA15.3 as a watchdog.

All the best on Friday, and congratulations on finishing your treatment! Well done!
