@Brenda5 that's a good tip about asking your doctor to write a script for 60 tablets. I have written a few posts about my experience with Tamoxifen so I won't go into it again, but when I was taking it, the doctor wrote a special code on the script so that I could get multiple packets of Tamoxifen at the same time. It saved visits to the chemist. They also did it for my tablets during chemo. It saves a lot of time and energy.
  • You try it but tell your onco everthing that it may or may not change. Some people no complaint some people heaps l suppose its just how our bodies recieve it. Personaly l didnt realise till they changed me from tamo to femara how l was actuely putting up with things. But we are all different
  • I'm on the other end of the spectrum to many of these ladies. I don't want to scare you with my experience so I won't recount it. It's like any medicine, you just have to wait and see I'm afraid. :)
  • It is hard to say what side effects are Tamoxifen and what in my case is just menopause. I did get lots of bone aches but a year on Tamoxifen and that pain is mostly all gone so that's good. I am still having heaps of hot flushes and for some silly reason I have trouble regulating my own body temp which is annoying. Moodwise we all have our ups and downs and after what we've been through with our world turned upsidedown its understandable but its not permanent even on Tamoxifen. Little hint with the tabs, get your oncologist to double the script from 30 tabs to 60. It saves refilling the script monthly and you get a little discount for two boxes instead of one. Often they are out of stock too so don't leave it to the last pill left.
  • Hi @Nannatash I've been on Tamoxifen about 15 months and side effects minimal - hot flushes, some fatigue and the occasional fuzzy head. Everyone is different but it's been fine for me.
  • Hi Nannatash, I have been on Tamoxifen for about 2 years now I think.  I take them at night to decrease the side effects.  I've also noticed that I get worse side effects (hot flashes & sleeplessness) when I get them from one chemist that gives me generic tamoxifen in a box, and less side effects from the ones I get from another chemist which come in a bottle.
  • @Nannatash I was on Tamoxifen for 4yrs from 2011, I had zero side effects, my period became lighter I was 43 at the time. Every yearly checkup my Surgeon would ask about side effects but I just didnt notice anything too different to what I was already like. Everyone is different. I started Arimidex after my recurrence Jan 2016 and have just been taken off that due to side effects and now on Aromasin, alas symptoms are the same...oh well, am just going to put up with it. Doesn't stop me doing anything, Im just slower and in pain more than usual.

  • @Nannatash I was on Tamoxifen a while ago now... thinking early 08 was the last time I was on it.  My side effects were mood related I felt like a was depressed all the time and very very grumpy.  No joint or muscle pain.  I still remember feeling sick for the first few weeks I started it bit nauseous but that went away.  Things usually settle down you need to give your body time to adjust to taking this drug

    all the best
