Tamoxifen and blurred vision

Just a quick update. I saw my GP yesterday and he has told me to stop the tamoxifen until I can see the medical oncologist and possibly change to a different medication. He said the cramps, blurred vision, nausea and severe cramps are all down to the tamoxifen. I see rad oncology tomorrow so I’m hoping they can grab one of the med oncology team members for me and sort something out. Will update when I know more.

nonkyboy, blurred vision is called diplopia. I've been on tamoxifen for three years but it was a recent stroke that caused the diplopia. I'd be interested to hear what your optometrist says. Ask her about prism glasses. They are amazing and make my eyesight perfect.

Thanks ladies. I have been seeing the same optometrist yearly for more than 25 years so he knows me and my eyes well. I trust him and I’m sure if he thinks there is a problem he will address it asap. I’ll let you know what he thinks after I see him on Friday.

Hey Lesley @nonkyboy, been on tamoxifen for 19 months now and noticed my eyes were getting worse. Had also had two instances where the blood vessels in my left eye (better of the two) ruptured and I looked like I was joining the walking dead. Saw the oncologist one week after the second time and then booked into see my optometrist. Optometrist is so far ahead technology wise and fully knows his stuff (trust him implicitly) said my eyes were okay but that it had been 5 years since I'd had my eyes tested - WHAT??????? I would have sworn it was only two years ago - so apparently mine was normal deterioration with aging and the second time my vessels burst it was because I was doing too many somersaults down a hill with slightly elevated blood pressure. Who'da thunk!!!! No explanation for the first but hasn't happened again so not worrying until it does. All the best lovely, hope yours has a normal explanation, so very wise to get it checked out. Ah well, maybe it is the cause (I am on Femara) but cataracts "at my age" are common, the development has been slow,  my mother had them too so more likely to have exacerbated the outcome than caused. Agree though, two months would be most unlikely to cause anything like that. 

@Afraser tamoxifen is known for causing cataracts. I don’t think it’s that in my case though because I’ve only been taking it for two months.

It's tempting to think it's side effects (it so often is) but good to check with the appropriate specialist first. My sight has started getting ever so slightly fogged (like slightly dirty glasses) but it's cataracts, nothing to with side effects. So February is fix it month! 

Yes I had something like that on Tamoxifen. Mine was a vein blockage behind the eye which over time has resolved itself. I take half of a 100mg aspirin daily just to dilute the blood vessels a little. Ask your doctor if that may help for you.
Even while on the aspirin, last year again (always right before xmas) I had a weird fuzzy thing in front of my eye which has turned out to be a burst blood vessel behind the eye. Odd thing is I have no blood pressure in the high range and no diabetes so the doctors are confused as to why it happened. Over time this too is resolving itself and my actual vision is fine, just with floaters now.

Damned hormones can do so many different things to us so it is good to follow up on anything which seems out of the 'norm' for you.
It will be interesting to find if Tamoxifen is doing it to yu.
