Severe rash 6 weeks after starting Arimidex

Has anyone experienced Severe Rash needing Steroids to begin the process of reducing the severity. If starts on weekend no oncologist or own Dr. available rely on local emergency dept. Wondered if anyone recently has experienced rare and adverse aromatise inhibitor related event and what they switched to with no followup rashes. Anyone? Thanks
  • Terrific that it has been resolved, @LeonieJ xx ... and that you are feeling better off the meds.

    Take care xx
  • A follow on from my extreme rash experience from Arimidex 2 weeks ago. 5 days Cortisone tabs helped to clear rash. Now taken off any anti-cancer drugs due to me in low risk category of 3.1% return with no tablets. My allergy rash after 6 weeks on Arimidex is quite rare. Certainly feeling less tired and not facing other side effects. Hope my experience might be useful knowledge for others. Cheers
  • Thnx. Will follow up your researched links. There is a serious academic study 2020 I found on a Filipino woman who had the same extreme side effect like me after 2 months but the case study fails to identify what therapy she switched to. I am in the early detection group of tiny lumpectomy, 5 days intensive radiation, and now in the third phase which has been the most bumpy section of the journey.
  • So sorry to see you join our exclusive little club, @LeonieJ .... and a shame to read of your rash. :(  I hope the steroids can rectify it.  It may be worth trying a 'generic' version of Arimidex as some coatings on the tablets CAN cause issues .... the active ingredients remain the same.  (I was on Arimidex until they started charging $5 on top of the PBS fee) so swapped to Anastrozole (the same med that is actually the name of the active ingredient) and have had no problems.

I put 'arimidex rash' into the search area of BCNA & chose 'newest' and here are the results ....

I am on Anastrozole/Arimidex & have no skin issues ..... but according to the US Breastcancer.org site, a rash CAN be a side effect .... (You may need to 'join' to access the link. It is a reliable, reputable site.)
