Oncologist number 3. A winner finally.

So after sacking oncologist one and two for having the people skills of a cranky nesting magpie, number three looks like a winner. This is the first time I have left an oncologists office without being upset, frustrated or just seriously pissed off.
Finally, someone who was willing to listen, was empathetic, yet straight down the line.  I now have an all girl team.  Which would be awesome if they would all stop having babies along the way:)
She actually congratulated me on making it this far on HT. The drop out rate is pretty high within the first year or so apparently.   Best of all, she is cool for me to continue the regular breaks on it.
Yay for onco number 3 and a big tick for my 2 yr post chemo check up.
Hugs to everybody

  • That is terrific news to hear @kezmusc. I'm so pleased for you. Perseverance has paid off. Go you. K xox
  • @kezmusc would you mind messaging the name of your onc? I'm guessing they're in greater Bris?
  • WOW! @kezmusc    That IS high!!  And do we wonder why???  When Medicinal Cannabis Oil is finally made available for ALL in pain & discomfort at a reasonable cost - I seriously believe the drop out rate will drop!

I've passed the 1 year mark - and happy to continue (refer below!)

In the meantime - there is MASSIVE civil disobedience by hundreds of thousands of Aussies accessing it on the sly!  And it works!
  • She says it's about 30 % the first year and climbs to around 50% by year 3 to 4.   @Arpie my original surgeon was a man and was awesome.  A real down to earth aussie bloke.  Unfortunately he decided not to play in the public sector anymore after 20 something years and just see his private patients. His replacement is a fantastic lady so all is well.
  • That is awesome news, @kezmusc - GO THE GIRLS!!

My Rads & Onc are both ladies & are terrific (tho my surgeon, thru no choice of his own is a guy .... and still pretty good too TBH!)

And my Onc has just had a baby too, 2 weeks ago!   LOL  I am seeing her 'locum' in 2 weeks.

And someone honest enough to tell you of the high dropout rate too!!  I wonder if they actually have figures on the dropout number - that would be interesting to know!!
  • Congratulations !  Great that you kept on trying and have now hit the jackpot with a female oncologist who you feel is 'right' for you.  She seems empathetic and sensible.  Good news for Year Two.  Keep up the good work.
