Pretty much what my oncologist told me over 13 years ago. The preferred duration of treatment then was five years. By the time I had completed four, the preferred duration was ten years. I was not very pleased. But he felt the research samples were really big and compelling. Being thorough, he did note that approximately half the research sample had not completed even five years. As I didn’t have joint pain, menopausal symptoms etc, I took his advice. 14 years NED. Letrozole munched up a chunk of my bone density but then so did my age. And quite a bit of estrogen too. No guarantees, but also no regrets.

Well done Afraser .... I reckon many who don't complete the 5 years also don't tell their Onc .... so won't be in the figures! Yep, I had arthritis prior to my diagnosis, so the Letrozole, Exemestane and Anastrozole all added to my aches & pains by more than 100%.
The foot pain (as described by Tri ) was debilitating, as was the hand pain and the trigger fingers. But I lasted for about 6.5 years ....
My bone density isn't too bad - tho am taking Caltrate again, to be sure to be sure!!
2 of my sibling's mothers in law had mastectomies some 40-50 years ago (it was the only option back then) & they were on Tamoxifen for 10 years ... and were in terrific form and shape well into their 90s when they passed from old age .....Sign in to react to this post
