Letrozole ?

Diagnosed 2 years ago and have been on letrozole for 18 months or so.  For the last few months or even more I have been getting niggling twinges (bit like a light stitch) in my groin on both sides - probably where the ovaries are located.  Can anyone else who is on letrozole (periods finished as soon as they gave me chemo 2 years ago - at age 46) tell me if they have had similar issues. Just went to Doctor and she has said go back for another pelvic ultrasound which i did about a few months back - and all was fine.

Thinking maybe a side effect??

  • Thanks Ladies, yes I do get my bloods done to check all these things and it says I am post menopausal now...  Yes could be the ovaries wanting to kick back in as I am only 48.  I will ask the doc at my next app.  Thanks for your info.x
  • Almost six months on Letrozole. I do get the odd abdominal twinge, but nothing regular. I was still getting my period up until I was diagnosed too. Are you having your oestrogen levels tested regularly? FSH and oestradiol I think they are. I'm a bit older than you and my onc is testing my blood every three months to see if my ovaries are trying to start up again. Says she's had patients at 55 who've restarted menstruating.
  • I have been on Letrozole since 8/17.Were a few issues for 3-4 months joint pain knees/ ankles/ back and occasional hot flush but settled down pretty much now helped by regular gentle exercise - mainly walking. No issue like you describe.Only ongoing concern is elevated cholesterol.Have you had a blood test to check you are menopausal ? I had twins after 7 years without periods - sounds like your body might be trying to ovulate.Just a nonmedical guess.
  • Hi Smellycrackle i have been on Letrozole for 21/2 yyears and tolerate the drug verywell.I did noticeduring first year that excessive exercise caused muscle aches and leg cramps still occur.

    All the best

    Bright in hope
  • I certainly haven't had that side effect. I get occasional dull aching in lower abdo area which is most likeky referred pain from my poor old back.
