Has Anyone had unusual tooth breakages since starting A Is?

Has anyone had unusual tooth breakage since starting AIs?  I started on Letrozole for 6 weeks, went to Exemestane for 6 months and now been on Anastrozole for 18 months .... The other day, the inside of my left lower eye tooth broke off whilst I was eating.  It wasn’t used in biting or chewing ... it just broke off.

Eye teeth are usually the strongest of the lot, so most unusual for this to happen.

My brother is a retired Dentist and isn’t aware of any correlation and was surprised to hear of the unusual breakage. Tho he said some treatments can cause major jaw bone problems ... prolia being one of them I think.

I am wondering if the lack of oestrogen from the tablets may somehow make teeth more brittle?

  • @Locksley - I usually go every 6 months too .... and am due now.  The break hasn't impacted the nerve, so is just annoying, not painful.  grrr

    Lucky you, @Fraser

Being older (late 60s) I've had my share of cracked teeth over the years prior to BC diagnosis - but it is just very unusual to break an eye tooth!!

  • I go to the dentist every 6 months because I don't have very good teeth.   At my last check up I mentioned to my dentist I feel chemo is killing my teeth and we have put a watch on a few teeth.  Article from arpie was interesting to read.
  • Eight years on Letrozole and one small internal crack - could have been caused by anything, I think.
