estrogen blockers not alway suitable

I was diagnosed with breast cancer early 2011

Lumpectomy followed by radiation and then Femara.

I usually have low blood pressure but after  few weeks taking Femara my blood pressure soared and it was advised by my oncologist to to stop taking it for a couple of months, blood pressure came back to normal. Has this happened to anyone else?

Tamoxifin was suggested but after a little research and a family history of clots, strokes etc I decided to decline any treatment opting to cut out all sugar, losing weight, exercising every day and drinking green tea. I hope this keeps me well as I have a 10 year old to care for.

Does anyone have any other ideas for lowering estrogen levels?

  • Hi Kateb

Sorry to hear about your struggles with femara.

It is such a difficult decision deciding to continue with estro blockers and taking more drugs to control side effects or taking nothing and trying to stay as healthy as possible and hoping the cancer doesnt come back.

I had my last mammo a couple of months ago and got the all clear. I also have ultrasounds every 6 months, blood tests annually and hope to for at least 3 years.

I dont smoke or drink am vego and still avoid sugar and soy.  I try to exercise everyday and hope for the best.

    All the best Kateb

  • You posted this about 18 months ago, as someone having struggles with the side effects of Femara I'm wondering how you are now? Did you find any alternatives? Or did you return to AIs? Much thanks, k
