@MvB I'm similar to @TonyaM though I had tamoxifen as well as radiation and still had the recurrence in the scar tissue of the lumpectomy 4yrs prior. They are saying now and I know a friend in the US who has early stage they do not do radiation they just go onto tamoxifen after surgery. This is something they are relooking at for DCIS currently.
In hindsight I wouldnt have done Radiation as so many the percentage didnt seem to be that at all. I've had a recon after the mastectomy but my Oncologist said he's not concerned about BC he's keeping an eye for secondary. When I had my checkup in January, they did an ultrasound still on my recon side and along the scarring.
Only time will tell if at recurrence a mastectomy plus chemo has worked, if it happened again, well I guess I'll know I did all recommended treatment to no avail.
My Mum had BC at 40, a single mastectomy no treatment at all full cured 26yrs free of it...but died they say to an unrelated cancer at 66. Who knows, it's genetic and in the thousands of mutations that they just havent discovered, and theres not alot we can do about that.
We are guided by the specialists and their knowledge and theres no way of knowing as we all go along the road, only time I think about it anymore is at checkup time.
Wishing you all the best.
Hugs xo
