Hi @MvB. I had an oncotype test, Endopredict. Not warranted on the face of it but I have a bad family history so my oncologist thought it a good idea. Mine came back a clear yes, so I had chemo.
I agree with you about the refusal to subsidise it here. Last year there was a study that showed that of the group for whom there was a question mark over whether chemo would be of curative value, 70% would not have to have it if they had an oncotype test. Think of the suffering and money that would be saved. I hope they get there one day.
My mother had breast cancer and survived. Before my sister died from BC she was tested for the BRCAs and Li Fraumini and came up negative. Late last year the remaining women in the family were tested for a wide panel of genetic mutations. My mother and I came up positive for the CHEK2 mutation. This isn't causative of cancer but acts as a componder of pre-existing risk factors, environmental or genetic. So there's something going on in my family but we still don't really understand what. It's all such a mystery eh?
I'll be interested to read what you find out about your pernicious BC. If you're interested, when you see your oncologist ask if there are any studies in which you could participate. A medical mystery like you might be very enticing to the scientists!
Hats off to you for your strength and perseverance. K xox
