Aromatase inhibitors
I’ve started reading about this treatment as it has been recommended for me . One article firmly stated chocolate , alcohol and coffee were not recommended. Is that what you all understand?? I mean that seems quite drastic if it’s for ten years 😳
Do you think say a wine once a week would be ok? And I just love my one fresh brewed coffee in the morning. What are you doing if you are on this treatment ? I’d really love to hear your advice . Xx

- RomlaMember@Marakesh it’s something about the exercising in very warm water that helps eliminate fluid from the body not just lying in a lovely hot bath.We had a talk by Professor Neil Piller as is his specialisation and he runs a lymphodema clinic at Flinders University here in Adelaide. He basically said we need to move to encourage fluid to exit the body to compensate for the lymph glands that were not doing this function.Hope I got that right as was a year ago and I don’t have lymphodema .
- MarakeshMemberThanks @Romla we talked about it at the last RYC lunch. We have another coming up on december 8 . I did check it out but the only one I can get to is in the evening after work . I would find it a bit much right now . I’m dead on my feet by end of day . But might look at hydrotherapy sessions anyway on my days off .
We are also putting in a bath at home . Can’t wait to get in and soak some time away! Would be great if it helps!! 😁 - RomlaMemberOh ok @"Patti J" sorry to hear that - maybe it depends on who leads and where it is - shouldn’t I know - but still worth following up as many programs across Australia
@Marakesh here’s a link about it you might like to follow up
http://ywcaencore.org.au/ - Patti_JMember@Romla. I was very disappointed with the Encore program, this time. I did contact the manager in N.S.W. because I really felt like I was wasting my time.
- RomlaMember@Marakesh hydrotherapy apparently is very useful for lymphodema which is the basis of the Encore program run by the YWCA in some states. It is a free 8 week course - 1 hour exercise/ information session on a number of topics of interest to breast cancer people eg Otis foundation for free holidays , garments suitable for those that have had mastectomy etc. , PLUS one hour hydrotherapy. I found it very worthwhile on many levels not the least was meeting others in the same boat. Not sure where you live so can’t advise if available in your location.
- kmakmMember@Marakesh Sounds like a plan. Good luck. K xox
- MarakeshMemberNothing formal at this stage . I’m 5’6 and 72 kilos . Probably could drop at least 6 kilos . That would help. I’m just going to cut my portions I think .
- kmakmMemberAh, what a bugger @Marakesh. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. How will you go with keeping your weight down? I find it so difficult. I'm seeing a dietician which has been good. K xox
- MarakeshMemberHi @Romla and @kmakm
sadly it is lymphedema . Spent a while with the physio today at the hospital. I’ve now got much stronger compression stockings on . Apparently TEDS aren’t firm enough. Treatment is compression elevation and exercise and keeping weight down . I was told I may have a genetic predisposition to developing it anyway and the surgery has just brought it on a bit sooner . I don’t know . I just want to heal up and keep positive that it will go away soon enough. - RomlaMember@Marakesh I also have noticed leg swelling on Letrozole. However have always had a tendency to it in hot weather esp if inactive. What has helped noticeably since I started Letrozole 8/17 is walking.I was walking 1-2 hours daily and made a difference to many things - improved my sleep, helped with joint pain and my mood .I listen to music on my phone as I walk as I forget am exercising.Am not walking atm however as had eye surgery but hope to return to it when my vision is better.
I will say initially was hard to walk as was winter and was not keen on exercise but I found after a couple of weeks it became easier and oddly I wanted to do it as I felt better.
