My son has autism spectrum disorder, and is very literal/logical. When I had to had my second DX, requiring a mastectomy, he was 13. I was very careful how much info to give and how to explain it as he suffers chronic anxiety also. Around that time, as us women often do, I had been talking about losing some weight. My gorgeous boy rationalised the situation as best he could based on weight: weight before surgery VS after. In reassuring tones he said to me (about the MX) "don't worry mum - at least you'll weigh less!"
