With this year's diagnosis of breast cancer travel plans with my husband to attend Malaysia's Grand Prix had to cancelled. Everything was booked and paid for and we were all but packed. Now we are ready to commence re-booking for next year but am concerned about travel insurance. I have heard some horror stories and was wondering if anyone can steer me in the right direction with a positive experience with an Travel Insurance Company.
I am 4 year surviver. Travelled heaps before and after breast cancer with the same travel company.. Last scans showed hot spots and I had radium in Dec and started on infusions of Zemeta. Oncologist said scans in March showed Zemeta is doing it's job and he is happy to work any treatment around the trip in Sept Oct to USA and Canada for 6 weeks. We have been there many times before. Now this same insurance company said they will not insure me seeing it is not 6 months since radium. Also I have only 30 days to accept their offer to insure my husband and I for everything except cancer. I guess I could have waited until May to do the insurance but we are wanting to put deposits down now and have all paid for before then. I know there are companies who will insure even terminal cancer patients for a higher price. Where do I go to find these companies. The only ones I seem to log onto are based in England. I am 66 and my husband is 67. I was a reg nurse for 45 years so am informed about health issues. Thanks for any advice. V

Just to let you know I just returned from USA. I used the pressure bandages on my arm and wrist during the long flights and had no problems. I had the standard travel insurance but I guess any claims for issues relating to previous breast cancer would have been a bit iffy....
I was on my guard for any swelling after the flight but nothing went wrong. I felt great the whole time and was able to drink wine, socialise and swim and snorkel with all my freinds! Great fun! And i felt so happy to be WELL.
Life is still good - even though I am going back to work next week.

Great advice Pinkgilly! We should all be aware of DVts & Lymphoedema and do those exercises!
i have been back to scotland twice (my home country) since finishing treatment, but one thing i will say you should check, my breast clinic doc, made sure i had an elastic arm sock for travelling, to help prevent lymphodemia, i do wear it every time i fly as they said i should, as for insurance, i took out insurance to stop off at singapore, and they never asked if i had had bc, but maybe you should check, as not telling may prevent you from claiming for other things, not sure.regards Moira
