Hi Narelle,
My kids are 9, 7 and 5 years old. The 9 year old was most stressed when I was diagnosed. He is at a local public school that have access to a program called On Psych. The counsellor comes to our school weekly and sees kids that have been put on the program. We went to our GP to get a referral for a mental health plan for him which entitles him to (I think) six sessions with counsellor before an evaluation, after which he can get another 4 sessions if needed. My son has enjoyed these sessions. They have provided him with reasurrance and he has also used them to address some other schoolyard issues he is having. Hope this helps.
