My Heart
My Heart
My heart yearns for yesterday,
When Cancer hadn’t invaded my breasts.
My heart yearns for the old me,
When I wasn’t scarred on the outside, or the inside.
My heart yearns for the knowledge
That my husband and I will grow old together.
My heart yearns for my daughters,
That they will never know breast cancer like I do.
But mostly my heart breaks.
It breaks when I see the woman that used to be me,
With her bald head wrapped tightly in a scarf,
Walking her child into school,
Playing in the park,
Pushing her trolley in the supermarket.
It breaks when I know all she is enduring just to stay with her family.
It breaks my heart to know the chaos taking place inside her,
The feelings of helplessness, confusion and anxiety.
It breaks my heart to see her looking around,
Wondering how many people are looking & feeling pity for her.
It breaks to know how bravely she carries on,
Defiantly showing the world that everything is still “normal”.
It breaks when I hear of another beautiful woman diagnosed with this disease.
It breaks my heart to know she won’t be the last.
