Great reads

Hi everyone, I wanted to share two great books I have recently read. The first, Never stop believing by Sally Obermeder. I found this to be a really interesting book not just her cancer journey but how hard she worked to go from a financial career to a show business career. The second book which I'm currently reading is, Breast cancer taking control by Professor John Boyages (thank you to Mich for putting me onto this). I wish I had read this book a lot sooner, it's written in plain English and clearly explains from diagnosis, surgical options, chemo therapies , adjuvant treatments, the importance and reason for radiotherapy and the completion of treatment. I feel that it has re-affirmed for me the choices made so far for and by me in my treatment plan have been the right ones. Cheryle :)

    Just found another book about HER2+, called HER2+ by Robert Bazell which the movie Living Proof is based on. Cheryle :) PS love the quote on the DVD: you can create miracles with hope.

    Hi Hannah and Mich, I found another book I read when I started chemo back in January. It's called Running Pink the Deborah De Williams story by Megan Norris. At times I really enjoyed this book other times I found it hard going. She seemed to be strongly in denial about her diagnosis and when I read it at the time I would have liked a little bit more information about her treatment. It was inspiring to read about her run around Australia for breast cancer research and that she ran over 800kms on broken feet! She previously had done a walk around Australia raising funds and awareness for Kids Helpline. I really admire her courage and determination and getting out there and doing it. Cheryle :)

    Both these books are/have been available to purchase through this BCNA website and I know that with Sally Obermeder a portion of the sale is donated through BCNA.  Go into shop I think is where you find it which is at the top of the page and you can order it that way.

    I unfortunately missed out on purchasing a book (they ran out) called Ultimate Wellness written by Professor Kerryn Phelps which appeared to be an extremely popular book at the summit but I haven't got to get a copy or read it yet.  Might be worth you checking that one out too as I am going to try and get hold of a copy.  You may be able to purchase it through the Book Depository Website. I not had a chance to search it out yet.

    Please keep info coming on any books like the above.  I found I am craving books on peoples personal stories as they give me inspiration to get well, keep well and keep on the onwards and upwards trail. (sometimes we get a few potholes/tornadoes that catch us unawares on our way but you just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try and try again).
