I agree, its PATHETIC after everything you go through, that it is elective! Disgusting!!! I am different in that I chose a single mastectomy 1 year after treatment and not at the time, so I was able to have immediate diep flap recon. Its not an easy road no matter what you choose, I had 2 major ops last year but am over it.
The only way I jumped the cue for mastecomy/diep flap recon in the public system was because I had a recurrence at the 4 year mark, so was placed Category 1 eventhough I was BRCA 1 & 2 negative.
I really hope this is something that can change!! x M
