There are a couple of us who are mad fishermen so here is a spot where you can put your fishing catch pics. I had a great night fishing off the beach last night. Nice when you brave the cold but get h...
hahaha, LOVE IT, @tigerbeth and @Sister - as a kid, I used to only ever eat Fish & Chip shop 'fish' (even tho my Dad was a good fisho & regularly brought fish home to eat.) I just HATED bones with a passion! (Still do!)
Hi @Brenda5
Yes, Blackfish & Luderick are one & the same. They fight REALLY hard & taste LOVELY but you have keep them alive & only hit them on the head/bleed them as you leave to come home. They are my preferred fish to 'smoke' for my Smoked Fish Pie. If they grew as big as Barramundi - they would give a bigger fight!!
I have a 'holey bag' that I loop over a rod holder, so the the fish sit in it, in the water & get fresh water going thru them all the time. If I only end up with one fish, I usually let it go at the end of the day.
I always use a net to for the fish & have a set of Lip Grips too, specially for big flatties! I always have a couple of towels with which to cover the fish & hold them, to prevent spiking (tho it still happens! :( ) I have a pair of pliers to pull the hooks out & then either release them or pop them in the bag.
If I caught a stingray or shovel nose shark on bait .... I'd probably just cut the line off at the hook! I've been struck by a stingray & it is NO FUN AT ALL!! I'll give you a tip - if you ever DO get hit by their barb ...... HOT WATER! As hot as you can stand - put the 'stung bit' in it for as long as you can stand it (but not BURNING YOU!)
haha I think I caught one of those 6" flatties up at Burrum too! LOL
Remember what I said about the OMG fish ...... I found it today! :) I had a BLAST, catching bream in REALLY shallow water!! The biggest one was just under 42cm, then a 40cm, then 2 x high 30cms & one about 30cm!!
