Cancer

Hi Everyone, happy Mother's Day to all the mums, step mums, adoptive mums and fur mums out there.

Well, surprisingly the last two days have been a mix of ups and downs. I finished treatment 10 months ago and it's just been 2 years since my diagnosis.

Yesterday I made a complete fool of myself. It surprised me and confused me and I'm still not sure why it affected me the way it did. I was shopping with my husband  and decided to go to Bakers Delight and was confronted with a wall of pink lady cut outs.  Well, I don't know why but I started to cry. Not just a slight tear, I'm talking a complete opening of the flood gates. An hour later I was still bawling. Who would have thought that a card board cutout could cause such a meltdown!

Today in complete contrast, I did the Mothers Day Classic 5km walk. It was fun and it am so proud of myself. I suffer other health issues that make this difficult and it's a big accomplishment for me. We were one of the first to set out and I was almost the last to get to the finish. I dedicated this walk to all the wonderful women I met in Box Hill hospital as well as all of you girls on this forum. We had a goal of $100 but managed to raise $1500.00. You have all been an inspiration and a massive support to me personally and for that I will be eternally grateful.

ps that's me pretending to be exhausted at the front lol

  • Hi Karen last year I did the 4km run with my daughter in law and I found it to be very emotional for when I crossed the finish line. This year I was away for a wedding and was going to do in Newcastle, but unfortunately I have done my knee, I was so dissapointed. This is a lovely picture of you and your friends finishing well done.

Thank you for being there for me and others, you and I have travelled this trip around the same time and isn't it great that we have got to the other side. Who would have thought chatting online to people you have never meet could help so much, thank you everyone xxx

  • Well done Karen, what an awesome effort (& love the pic!).

Funny you should mention the emotion at Baker's Delight - as a newly trained Community Liaison for BCNA I trotted down to the local store to buy buns and say thank you for their support and found it quite an emotional experience, the ladies were so lovely and supportive and seeing my kid's pink lady silhouette dedicated to me and my mum made me tear up, but thankfully I (mostly) kept it together!

Looks like you had a great day today, thanks for being such an inspiration and support to so many of us here on the network
