Calling any Kalamunda/the Mount members

I'm doing well now.  I'm now about 3 1/2 yrs post my second primary being diagnosed.  I see Arlene and Peter once per year (for each of them) and am still on Tamoxifen.

In retrospect, I wish that I had had both of my breasts removed when I was first diagnosed, and I guess if you are worried then that is what I would recommend that you consider.  It doesn't guarantee that you won't get a recurrence but at least it decrease the odds!  Hindsight is all very well though.....at the time, I wasn't ready to make that decision!

Hi Vicki, thanks for your friendly greeting. It is good to hear from other successfully treated BC survivors who went through the same place with the same people. I hope you don't mind but I have applied to follow your blog or whatever they call it because it could be really helpful to me to read up about your journey. However, I am new here, and still very unaware of what is ok and what is not ok with other people in the group, so I may have got it wrong. Please feel free to say no if your blog is sufficiently private and personal you would rather not allow me access.  And I do hope I have not done this wrong and upset or offended you. I have joined Perth Women's group and did hope to get to the gathering in Feb but was unable to drive and did not have any transport from Kalamunda. I do hope we will meet up again at a later date.

Hi, hope we can get to meet sometime. I looked up your earlier blogs and saw your one about getting a second primary breast cancer in your other breast after 7 years. That must have been a hell of a shock. I had quite a good discussion about this risk with my surgeon, same guy as yours, and about the fact that my whole body has been exposed to the conditions and personal makeup that resulted in the first cancer, so there must be a raised but moderate risk of getting what you got. He agreed, and said for me it was probably about 5% chance this would happen, which is higher.  A thing I have to weigh up in a year after I finish my Herceptin, and decide whether or not to have a breast reconstruction on the first mastectomy, and possibly remove the second breast at the same time with a double reconstruction.

I imagine that it is really important to remember that you got unlucky, not that your cancer metastasized: it was a second primary, not a secondary. How are you travelling now?

WOW sounds like some nice travel spots to go to visit family but for now I guess you will be staying put.

I also have grown up children and my daughter has been a godsend and my total rock.  She is one very amazing child and I can't believe how lucky I am to have her.  She also had her own life with working etc. when I was going through my treatment so I understand how hard it is.

Stay in touch and let me know with a bit of notice if you need help with transport.  My hubby is currently in between contracts at present so we are spending a bit of time away but I will be around most of the time.

Hi Mich, this group sounds fantastic. I would love to come to the gathering, though I may be in the first 2 weeks of my first round of chemo if the doctor decides I need that, so I will have to wait and see.

Most of my family are spread around the world from California to Spain. There is only me and my husband and my 2 adult children in Perth. I have  been relying heavily on my husband and my adult daughter in particular, as she lives nearby. They have both been fantastic in the two weeks since diagnosis. But they both work fulltime and will run out of carer's leave before too long, They will both give me all the help I need with chores so long as I ask, but I may have some transport limitations for non-medical appointments.

I'm in Mount Hawthorn and had my treatment at The Mount with Peter Willshire and Arlene Chan 5 years ago now. I would encourage you to join our "Perth Women Group" on this site if you would like to meet some other lovely ladies for a chat and lots of smiles! I'm sure Chris will give you details.
