Yikes! AC or TCH chemo?

Just had my first visit with the oncologist today. I have been given the choice between 6 months of AC chemo (plus Herceptin after the first 3 months), or a 4 month course of TCH (non-anthracycline) including herceptin. Of course I'd rather the shorter course as we've booked a big trip away in September (20 years of marriage, yay!). Just not sure which way to go. The older, more tested drugs, or the newer regime. The oncologist is probably leaning towards the longer course.

  • Thanks Karen, I have to make a decision by tomorrow, so will ask the oncologist more questions.

  • Hi Kristye,

There is a lot of information and it can be overwhelming, so just come to the Online Network and ask away x

  • Hi kristye,

i had TCH as that was recommended for the type of cancer I had. The carboplatin made me very I'll and was substituted after the 2nd road with cyclophosphomide. Weigh up your options and ask the benefits and draw backs of each treatment is that you can make an educated decision on which way to go. Good luck. Karen xox

  • Thanks Jen, I am finding a lot of the information here to be very useful. There's just so much to take in! Got my hair cut short today in prep for losing it. I will enjoy these next two weeks before it all starts!

  • Hi Kristye,

Sorry to hear you have to go through this. I did TCH and have just finished the chemo, and have started radition and have another 7 treatments of Herceptin to go, only you can make the choice my friend. I started herceptin with my 2nd round of Docetaxel, and now I am having it on its own it is very easy.

This is the best network for any  information you need, it was my go to place when I was diagnosed, everyone has different side affects to chemo and the best advise I could give you is ask your oncologist questions about anything that worries you and your chemo nurses are a wealth of information, it also helps if you take a family member or friend with you to your appointments cause they will remember things you won't and its nice to have company also. Take one step at a time as not to get to overwhelmed and remember we are all here for you ??

    Cheers Jen ?? ?? ?? xx
