I had a recurrence after 10 years. BC version one in 2006 (Invasive lobular 50mm tumour) I had a bilateral mastectomy, AC chemo then took Tamoxifen for 5 years. I couldn't afford radiotherapy. BC V2 in 2016 I had a wide excision to remove the tumour in my armpit, 5 of 15 nodes corrupt. TC chemo, ovaries removed, 25 rounds of radiotherapy, and now taking Exemestane.
I have some pretty nasty nerve damage from the 2016 surgery, peripheral neuropathy from the TC and the Exemestane is a challenge.I can't see I had much choice if I wanted to survive. Of course, I'm running out of removable body parts, so more surgery isn't on the menu.
Mentally, all this stuff is exhausting and there is a very strong chance that my disease will progress. I don't have anything in the way of scans with the exception of a few ultrasounds to check some of the multiple lumps and bumps in my armpit.
No CTs, blood tests or MRI. For me now, its a matter of waiting to see what will happen. Three years on, I'm back at work and I try not to think about it all too much. Mxx
