What to do

I have a wonderful husband who has been my rock but in all of this whirlwind of bc experiencs we have one disagreement....he doesn't agree with chemo or radiation.  He firmly believes it can be treated with a new approach in our diet and exersise. We are both health nuts, eat well, vegetarian etc and I see natropath who has supported all the decisions I have made with the regards to treatment. But my husband , along with some well meaning friends are always trying to convince me not to do the chemo and radiation. They do all their research and present it to me hoping I will change my mind. I am firm in my decision to go ahead, I just don't think you can take the risk. Has anyone else faced this situation.  It can be a lot of pressure at times but my view is that you do both. (I know he will support whatever decision I make.)

Hugs to all

I found exercise in particular really helped me during Chemo. I'm afraid that once you have a tumor, you really need to do the recommended treatment as well as the healthy eating and exercise to support this. Also be very cautious about supplements or extreme dietary changes while you are actually having chemo and radiation as they can interfere with each other and do more harm than good. Nobody wants to go through chemo etc and have it not be effective because of effects from alternative therapies. It is your body and therefore your choice as to what treatment you choose. Complimentary treatments can help but if you are having Chemo always check with the oncologist about any other treatments you might be considering to try and help yourself. I hope you reach a decision that you are comfortable with and that friends and family realize that you need their support no matter what treatment you decide upon. All the best. Deanne xx
  • I agree with your comment Robyn. I don't have my full results yet but I do know that if I do need chemo, rads or any thing else that may increase my life expectancy I will be doing anything and everything the doctors tell me to do. I don't want to kick myself later if it came back, even if it does, at least i did everything at the time that I could.. I have had full support from my family and at the end of the day it's your body and your decision and I am sure your family will support you no matter what you decide..go with your gut feeling. Good luck! Karon

  • When I was diagnosed,my husband was very upset that I had to have chemo, but not actually against it like your husband.I am 59 years old,and pride myself on my fitness, however, when it comes to cancer,no amount of healthy eating and exercise/meditation etc.is going to cure the cancer.I always thought, that because I have never driven a car(therefore I walk and ride ) never smoke or drink alcohol, and only eat very healthy food(no sugar amongst other things) that I would never get cancer. But as we know,it is much more than that. However, eating well and exercising, will definitely help with your treatment.I know there are people that suffer through chemo and radiation, through no fault of their own,but I believe that generally speaking, your good health will assist you. I had a mastectomy, followed by chemo.I have pretty much sailed through it.I am very fortunate, but I like to think, that a good part of it was because of my health before I started.I wish you all the best with your decision.I don't think people should pressure you at a time like this.It is hard enough having cancer, let alone having to convince people that your decision is right for you. At this time, you need their support:) It's your body, your choice!! All the best Tanya.xoxo Robyn
