Vitamin D

I got my Vitamin D results back yesterday. Apparently a normal range is 70 to 80? My level is 43 and it had crept up from 40 from the previous test in May. So I have been advised to start taking Vitamin D 3 times a day for the first month. There is apparently a chance of recurrence associated with low levels. So yep no hesitation taking the tablets and will try to get out in the sun more.

  • 12 months ago tested 57 for vitamin d, so had been taking 1 table per day for 12 months.

BC diagnosis 30/04/13- lumpectomy, no chemo and then radiation. My oncologist had me tested on my first visit to her, results 64?? After 6 weeks of rads ( double dose for 3months and some sunshine)  I have been tested again and am down to 41, will see my onco next week as she has said she wants me at 150 or above.

Research told me to take tablets with biggest meal of the day.

If anyone has any other tips please share.

My onco was quiet concerned so I will let you know if she recommends anything.

    Take care

  • I mentioned the Vit D ( mainly for bone health) to my Onc and he ask me why do I ask and if it's to do with cancer being caused by low levels of vit D it's not true. But to me it keeps coming up from a lot of people. I made him check my levels and they were really low so I'm going to be starting taking them just to be on the safe side.Vanessa
  • HiI was told by my oncologists that ranges are very outdated and doctors need to look at all the recent information regarding Vitamin D. I was 86 when I was diagnosed and was told that for BC sufferers it is ideal to be around 100, my GP and my naturopath confirmed this. Chemo also plays havoc with the levels. I take the drops now to maintain my levels.Janice
