Vitamin B for peripheral neuropathy

Hi all,

Does anyone have any information on dosage of Vitamin B  for early neuropathy.  I have just completed 3rd round of chemo and can't see oncologist for a while.  I spoke to the chemo nurse and told her about loss of sensation in 3rd and 4th fingers and to report it to oncologist next visit which is not until 3rd Feb. She said there is not enough evidence to support Vit B but it wouldn't hurt to try. I think I read somewhere that combination of B6 and B12 might be beneficial.  Any advice appreciated.

  • Hi Sue, I have had 4 AC & 6/12 Taxol
with no neuropathy so far but am waiting for it to surface. I don't take anything but have weekly acupuncture & refloxology to keep things moving. I also exercise 4 to 5 times a week hoping it might keep it at bay until the end. Good luck!
  • Hey Sue,

Im 1yr post chemo, and had neuropathy in my feet, still a little even now. I hadnt heard of the Vit B, however I was advised not to take any supplements whilst still in Chemo for many reasons. So once I finished, my Oncology Unit put me immediately on Vit D, With Vit C for absorption within 3 months levels were brilliant! I also take Magnesium which is the base that everyone should take as it services over 300 enzymes in the body and helps in regeneration. Neuropathy Ive found has just slowly gotten better, it hasnt bothered me really and Im only just rehabilitating exercise wise with an exercise physiologist which Id totally recommend post Chemo as I needed a Specialist to work with my muscles and get me mobile again. I used to suffer shocking pain in my feet walking. Hugs :) Melinda
  • Hi Sue

I got the same advice, took one Mega B a day and my symptoms started to improve. Mine were really bad, mainly my feet, to the extent that my oncologist and I had a robust discussion about my last 2 taxol treatments (I did have them). I should add that the improvement may have been entirely coincidental but I am still taking Vitamin B, my symptoms are still improving (slowly but hey!) and it's still not doing any harm. I would say definitely worth a shot.
