Unknown Breast lump and pain.

Hi I found a lump in my left breast a week ago. I went straight to my GP she also felt the lump. I was sent to have a mamogram and ultra sound. I felt humiliated by the stenographer who said that he couldnt even find it???  Then the doc on call at the mamogram also said he couldnt see it. Its the size of a pea.? I also have been having dizzy spells, nausea and  feeling tired all the time. and its itcy and I have a burning sensation in the area of the lump? I am scared of this being something bad, but also being told its nothing??  My step mum has breast cancer and has just had a mastectomy. they didnt see hers either and she has 2 types,  a lump and an aggresive spreading one. I feel a little upset because she was told the same and now she is fighting for her life. Its hard to get 2nd opinions here in Tasmania. What else can I do?

  • Thanks sarah I am feeling pretty crappy and crabby at the moment.  I am going to call my GP and get another referal as I dont want to wait for weeks on end in the public system with the surgeon away on holidays etc. If I have to pay to see someone I will just to  get some answers if nothing else, thanks for the hug x

  • Gosh what an awful position you are in. Phone the above and get advise, break down into tears, say you want some action and now. You could go to emercency with "not feeling right" and explain all your systoms and don't hold back for a second.

Keep the blog going as we are all here to help. chin up darling.

  • Maybve you could  ask to have a fine needle biopsy done on the lump. I had a very tiny lump several years ago (which turned out to be nothing) and that's what they did. The breast surgoen I saw also had difficulty locating the lump but he did the biopsy anyway. Later of course I developed BC in my other breast but that's another story.

I have read a number of stories on here Gympiegirl of women  - particularly younger women - being told by their doctors that their breast lump was 'nothing' and it has later been found to be cancer. If your gp can feel it too, there must  be something going on. Make sure you get it properly tested and get a definitive answer.

If it does turn out to be cancer - yes that is scary and the treatment can be gruelling - but at least you will have caught it early and you will have a good chance of being cured.  Good luck.

  • Hi,

You could get a referral to a specialist or hospital  who could advise you of your options.  Make sure you do not give up on this until you find the correct person to help.  You could ring the hospital breast care nurse who could also advise you.

    Good luck !
