Sorry to hear that you have to go through another surgery, are you having reconstruction at the same time.
I found the mastectomy surgery itself quite straightforward, the drains were a bit of a pain. I had one drain removed on day 4 and went home with the other drain that was removed later. I did not have reconstruction maybe because I had never been particularly fond of my boobs, I was pretty small chested to start with. I am also much older than you with adult children.
