Turn down the lights
Has anyone heard of this study?
Total darkness at night key to success of breast cancer therapy
Apparently, there is a suggestion that having less exposure to light at night improves melatonin production which enhances the efficacy of tamoxifen on hormone positive breast cancers.
I'm a keen user of e-readers and know that my sleep is being more disturbed by reading until 10:30pm with them. I've always been a fan of blackout curtains to keep out street lights because any glimpses of light when I turn over wakens me.
This article also looks at the issue of artificial light and health issues such as cancer, obesity and diabetes.
Is too much artificial light at night making us sick?
What I liked about the article is that it recommends simple alternatives such as choosing a redder light similar to the colour given off by the old incandescent globes and switching to paper-based books at a certain time.
Even if there is no causal link between low melatonin production and cancer cell growth promotion, I know I'd appreciate a better night's sleep.
What do people think?
Cheers
