triple negitive bc

Hi everyone, I am very new to all this so if I'm not doing it right ok someone please let me know...I have been diagnosed with triple negitive breast cancer and I am wanting to speak with those who are going through the very same disease.  I am very fightened about having this type of cancer as it's only in the 20% range of all breast cancers.  I lost my Mum to breast cancer 13 years ago now and I'm very scared I will end up very helpless like she did, going from a strong healthy woman to a very fragile flower that couldn't move from the couch.  I have a wonderful and supportive husband and 6 wonderful children.   I am to have my breast conserving sugery on the 28th of this month and then I think 3 weeks after that I start chemo, and like most of you ladies have already felt or are feeling now, it's scaring the hell out of me....I have in my mind that I only have a 2 to 5 year time span left although at this stage it seems not to have spread  any further than my lump in my breast.  I guess I'm looking for some positives here and I know they are there but I can't see them at the moment,  Thank you for listening.

  • Hi Sandy,

Thanks for sharing your story, I went to have my perioperative exam today for my lumpectomy on Tuesday 28th of next week..everything was good :-)  so apart from the minor hiccup in my breast I am otherwise healthy which is great news.  Anyway thanks again and I will keep y'all posted on my results next week and the week after that!

    Blessings, Susan xx

  • Hi Susan,

I was diagonsed February this year, had my scan and biopsy on my daughter's 18th birthday. Then followed the countless test but worth the effort to know the cancer has not spread to any other part of the body. Had my lumpectomy early march, they took 3 lymph nodes that were all clear, at my return visit they told me i would require a further operation as clear margins were not found, to say i was scared would be an understatement, i went home and told my partner and daughter what song i wanted played at my funeral.. went down like a lead balloon i can tell you. After the second op i decided it was time to pull myself together and fight with everything in me to get through this.

Tomorrow i go in for my 4th round of chemo, won't lie to you they can be pretty rugged but we know they are worth it in the long run. Side effects have not been to bad for me just some tiredness and headaches but nothing to bad. Have a further 2 rounds of chemo (6 in total) then it is off for radiation for me. I have been able to keep working right through ( thank god for understanding bosses) and so far after chemo i have only had to have 2 days off each time.

What i am trying to say is stay positive, we all have our down days, ( i personally take to the couch and cry lol) while it is a very trying time for not only you but your family also, you can get through it and you will. The ladies on here are priceless, they answer the most dumb questions ( think i have asked plenty of them) they have advise on most things and just being able to admit your scared without worrying anyone at home is such a relief.

Hope i haven't waffled on to much, take each day and each trip to the hospital as they come and remember you are strong and you will get through it.

    Take care SandyX

  • Hi Ann,

Thank you for sharing your story with me it means a lot to me, especially  now because I am still in the limbo stage of as to what stage the tumor is and as to what treatment will be best for me.  I'm off to the Royal Melbourne tomorrow for my pre admin and tests etc...and then the following tuesday 28th in for the lumpectomy.  I have to admit I am not to thrill about going through the big scan after the blue dye is put in!

Any way living with hope and faith,

    Brightest Blessings to you,  Susan.

  • Hi Susan,

I had a lupectomy, chemo, radio. No lymph nodes involved. Aged 51 at diagnosis, 3.3cm invasive lump. No family history! Three years down the track and I'm really well and back at work part-time. I don't intend working full time again... too many other fun things I want to have the time to do! The treatment seems so long when you're doing it, but you'll get there. Enjoy yur family and friends and keep on smiling! Yes, chemo is a bit rough, but not nearly as bad you might be expecting. I was a real sleepy head, but otherwise not too bad.

    Good luck!
